Daily Skincare Regime
Our ‘Daily 5 Step’ Skincare Regime
Fit, healthy looking skin starts with using clean natural products and having good daily skincare rituals in place.
We believe it’s important to create time every morning and every evening to clean and nourish your skin – and this time ‘away from the machine’ allows you to prepare and focus for the day ahead, or helps you to unwind from a busy day.
We have developed a step-by-step skincare regime that we call the ‘Daily 5 Step’: quite simply because it has 3 steps in the morning + 2 steps in the evening,
and all 5 steps occur in one day, every day.
Morning Ritual
1. Prepare 2. Refine 3. Protect
Evening Ritual
4. Reduct 5. Prime
1. Prepare
To prepare means to make oneself ready for something expected, or thought possible. As part of daily skincare regime this is about creating a simple morning ritual of cleansing and exfoliating to prepare your skin for the day ahead.
Cleanse
WHY
Wash your face with warm water every morning at the very least. Consider using a gentle natural face cleanser that will remove any excess oils, dirt or make-up from your skin. Avoid using soap and any products that contain alcohol or denatured alcohol as these will strip your skin of your natural oils, leaving it dry and exposed.
HOW
1. Gently wet your face using warm water and a clean face towel to relax the face and soften the surface of the skin. 2. If you are using a gentle cleanser, gently massage a small amount all over your face and neck. After a period of gentle cleansing, wash off with warm water.
WHEN
Every morning – except on the two mornings that you do a deeper exfoliating cleanse instead.
WE RECOMMEND
Ritual Face Cleanser $45.00
Exfoliate
WHY
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead cells from the top layers of your skin to reveal the healthy cells beneath. It will give your skin a more even appearance and a brighter, fresher glow. This deeper cleanse is achieved by using a rougher, grittier textured cleanser that will be able to lift off the dead skin cells. We recommend using natural ingredients such as kaolin clay (mineral rich clay). Avoid any products with synthetics and other chemical based nasties.
HOW
1. Rinse your face with warm water.
2. Place a dollop of face scrub into the palm of your wet hand.
3. Massage into face and neck, working in a circular motion, and avoiding sensitive areas such as around your eyes.
4. Wash off with warm water.
WHEN
Twice a week.
WE RECOMMEND
Rock & Roll Face Scrub $49.00
2. Refine
To refine means to reduce, purify, distil a process down to its most basic art form. As part of our recommended daily routine it alludes to the process of shaping and defining your look through toning, shaving (for guys) and moisturising.
Tone
WHY
To reduce any excess surface oils, to clean out pores and provide tightening to skin.
HOW
1. Dampen a disposable cotton wool pad with toner.
2. Gently wipe all over your face and neck, avoiding your sensitive eye area.
3. Repeat if necessary with a clean cotton wool pad.
4. Let your skin dry naturally
WHEN
Decide based on your skin’s needs. For some, toning every morning after cleansing makes sense for their skin; others may only tone when their skin demands it (a gentle, natural witch-hazel based toner can be safely used every day - but avoid at all costs alcohol in your toner - think napalm for your pores and skin).
WE RECOMMEND
Logic Toner $49.95
Shave
WHY
A good shave requires skill and attention. Ensure you have the right tools on hand: (1) a warm cloth, (2) a sharp razor; (3) a natural shaving product that is free from alcohol and parabens, and ideally (4) a good quality shaving brush. Shaving over freshly cleaned, softened skin is ideal as it helps to open pores, relaxes the face and softens the hair - allowing the razor to cut more closely, resulting in a smoother finish.
HOW
1. Apply warm water or a warm towel to the face
2. Apply a small amount of 'Old Fashioned Shave Cream' to either a shave brush or palm of your hand. Do not use too much water as this natural formula does not require it.
3. Using a shave brush or your hand create a bold lather on the area you will shave
4. Using a fresh razor shave clean in long smooth strokes being careful to pull with the natural grain of your hair follicles.
5. Rinse clean with warm water
WHEN
Shave as necessary. For some, this will be daily, for others, more sporadically.
WE RECOMMEND
Old Fashioned Shave Cream 100ml Jar $33.00
Moisturise
WHY
Moisturiser will help keep your skin supple and will further protect it from whatever the day throws at it. It is important to choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type (dry, oily or combination), and that is easily absorbed and won’t leave your skin feeling greasy.
HOW
1. Apply a small amount of moisturiser all over your face and neck.
2. Gently massage in and leave for a minute to soak in
WHEN
Every morning
WE RECOMMEND
Gameface Moisturiser 100ml Jar $75.00
Eye Serum
WHY
The delicate area under our eyes can be more prone to dryness and will more readily show signs of fatigue through dark circles and puffiness. A good eye serum, using natural ingredients, will provide a more concentrated level of nourishment and hydration for this sensitive eye area.
HOW
1. Dab a very small amount of eye serum under the eye area.
2. Gently pat the serum with your fingertips, moving from the bridge of your nose and working towards your ears.
3. Leave to absorb for a minute.
WHEN
Every morning
WE RECOMMEND
Dichotomy Eye Serum $95.00
3. Protect
Any daily skincare routine worth its salt must have an ethos of protection at its core. Because it’s dangerous out there; gamma rays, solar heat spots, relative humidity and that's all before you have even left the house, so it’s important to wear protection, keeping your skin safe by locking in the good, and keeping out the bad.
Lip Balm
WHY
Lips tell a lot about a person, so treat them with the respect they deserve. Keep them soft, voluptuous and primed by applying a good lip balm that will put up the good fight on your behalf against the sun, the wind and the bitter cold. Seek out one with natural ingredients that will help protect, nourish and hydrate but will also look after our mother earth (because no lip is that special).
HOW
Apply to the lip area, and reapply as necessary.
WHEN
This may vary depending on the day, and the elements you are about to face.
4. Reduct
A wonderful word that means 'take back to origin', a perfect concept for this step in our daily routine. For us it represents that time in the day when we put down our arms, drop our guard, breath, think, meditate and transcend. A time when we wash away the days dirt and excess oils, remove make-up, moisturisers and sunscreens and simply let our skin relax, become its natural state, reduct.
Cleanse
WHY
Cleansing in the evening is a great habit to get into, not only for promoting healthy skin, but also as a way to wind down from the day. An evening cleansing routine may be as simple as washing your face with a warm cloth. If you need to remove SPF, make up or excess oil, using a gentle natural skin cleanser can be beneficial.
HOW
Rinse a soft fine cloth (such as a muslin cloth) under warm water and gently wipe all over your face and neck. Or when using a gentle cleanser, wet your face and gently massage a small amount of cleanser all over. After a period of gentle cleansing, wash off with warm water.
WHEN
Every evening
Masque
WHY
A face masque will provide a deeper detoxifying treatment which will draw out impurities and unclog pores leaving smoother, clearer, more deeply cleansed skin. We recommend using a natural product, such as kaolin clay (mineral rich clay). Avoid any products containing alcohol, synthetics and other nasties as this is about reducing and getting back to our natural state, not adding more synthetics to complicate.
HOW
Our Rock & Roll face scrub can also be used as a face masque.
1. Wet face and hands
2. Apply masque to face, massaging gently ensuring even coverage, avoiding the gentle skin around your eye area.
3. Leave for 10 minutes or just before it dries out.
Note: clays will draw blood to the surface of your skin, which will result in some temporary redness, this is normal when using a natural masque or exfoliator - but it should not last and be gone within a minutes of cleaning it off.
4. Wash off with warm water and a cloth
WHEN
All skin is different: when adding a face masque into your weekly skin regime, it's okay to use it once or twice a week. You can use the masque more frequently in times of need – such as with very oily or very dry skin - but tread carefully.
Tone
WHY
If you’ve been wearing make-up, moisturisers or SPFs, or if your skin is oily, dry or blemished, a natural-ingredient based toner will further help to cleanse, treat and rebalance your skin returning it to its more natural state.
HOW
1. Dampen a disposable cotton wool pad with toner
2. Rub gently all over your face and neck, avoiding your sensitive eye area.
3. Repeat if necessary with a clean cotton wool pad
4. Let your skin dry naturally
WHEN
Decide based on your skin’s needs. A gentle natural toning lotion can be beneficial to a daily skincare routine.
5. Prime
The final step in our day is to nourish and hydrate, to set ourselves up for what fate will throw when a new day breaks.
Moisturise
WHY
At the end of the day moisturise clean skin to trap in the good oils and keep the skin plump and translucent. Choose a night time moisturiser that best suits your skin’s needs – whether that is the same as your day cream, or a specific night time formulation - that will be a matter of choice and need.
HOW
1. Apply a small amount of moisturiser all over your face and neck.
2. Gently massage in.
WHEN
Every evening
WE RECOMMEND
Dark Moon Hydrating Cream $85.00
Eye Serum
WHY
The skin around our eyes is more delicate, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. Use a refined eye serum to nourish and hydrate the eye area, to reduce puffiness, and the appearance of dark circles.
HOW
1. Only a small amount of eye serum is required. Gently dot the serum under the eye area and pat gently with your fingers, moving from the bridge of your nose and working out towards your ears.
2. Leave for a minute to soak in.
WHEN
Every morning
