After 15 days I am so over it! If I hear one more politician or expert giving me guidance or advice I think it might topple me over. I’m becoming less efficient, less inclined to shave, less inclined to make the bed or do the dishes. All the little efforts we were making to make the lock down ‘special’, dressing in themes for dinner, daily exercise routines and the like are slowly subsiding as the real needs of simple survival demand more and more immediate attention. 

I read an account once of what it was like to be a prisoner of war, the veteran being interviewed was explaining that he felt the people who were most optimistic, the ones who planned for escape or rescue, those most vocal, ultimately did worst and often did not survive, their hope vanished. Instead he said, those who just focused on the moment on surviving the day, those were the ones who got through it better. I think maybe I understand this anecdote better now than I did at the time. Surviving something like this is about staying afloat, maintaining a good head space and perhaps going into neutral a little and letting what ever the day throws at us wash past.

Either that or dress in black and watch reruns of 90’s action movies.
