5 more tips to help you age gracefully

Ageing gracefully is not about battling nature to try and stay looking younger. Growing older gracefully is a state of mind. It’s about accepting the aging process and working with it. Sure we can help our bodies battle the ailments that might speed up the process, but it’s not about trying to reverse it.

It’s about staying young in mind and spirit but letting your body embrace the changes.

As 77 year old ex-hellraiser Jack Nicholson says below – get used to the ride.

"I’m definitely still wild at heart. But I’ve struck bio-gravity. I can’t hit on women in public any more. I didn’t decide this; it just doesn’t feel right at my age."

There were points in my life where I felt oddly irresistible to women. I’m not in that state now and that makes me sad.

But I also believe that a lot of the improvements in my character have come through ageing and the diminishing of powers.

“It’s all a balancing act - you just have to get used to the ride." Jack Nicholson

Here is how you can get used to the ride:

USE A GOOD SUNSCREEN

The best natural sunscreen
It might give you a nice, healthy looking tanned complexion, but too much sun can cause a myriad of problems for your skin. Aside from the skin cancer risks it can also age skin. Use a good, high SPF sunscreen from a young age and you will help stop your skin resembling an elephant’s backside when you are older.

WASH YOUR FACE PROPERLY

Aside from exfoliating your face once a week this is the next best thing you can do. Regular soap can clog the pores on your face and soak up your skin’s natural oils, leaving it looking like a 90-over old cricket ball. Use a facewash that is specifically designed to deal with the skin on your face.

DRESS WELL

By dress well we really mean dress appropriate to your age. Snoop Dog might be able to carry off looking like a gangster out of Compton, LA, but not many other fathers in their 40s can. Certain clothes can be worn by certain ages, but after that they should be consigned to the wardrobe. Let that favourite hoody go and find something else that you feel good in. The old adage if you look good you will feel good is true.

HAIR

This is aimed really at the males of our species. If you are blessed with a full head of hair as you navigate life then respect it. Your barber should be like the barman at your favourite bar – he should know who you are and remember your favourite drink, or in this case how you like you hair cut.

If nature dishes out grey hair later in life then be like Clinton or Clooney and go with it.

If fate decides your hair and skull will permanently part company then, hard as it may seem, let it happen. Don’t try and comb over that bare patch – be bald and proud.

BE HAPPY

Nothing can release the tension in your face and make you seem younger than a simple smile.

Age gracefully with Triumph & Disaster.
